Sorbonne University(French:Sorbonne Université) is referred to as "Sorbonne". It is a world-leading research university located in the Latin Quarter of Paris, France. Member of the Union of Universities, the Union of European Capital Universities, and the Association of European Universities, formed by the merger of the former Paris Sorbonne University (Paris IV) and the former Pierre and Marie Curie University (Paris VI University) in January 2018. There are three main departments of literature, science and medicine.


The former Pierre and Marie Curie University (Paris VI University) is a public university in France with only science and engineering subjects. It is ranked 1st in France, 40th in the world[10], and 3rd in the world in mathematics in the 2017 academic rankings of world universities.[11] Physics, earth sciences, medicine and other disciplines are at the leading level in the world. It has more than 180 laboratories and has established more than 125 research institutes throughout France, including the famous Henry Poincaré Institute and the Paris Institute of Astrophysics. The Sorbonne was formed by the merger of the former Pierre and Marie Curie University (University of Paris VI) and the former University of Paris Sorbonne (University of Paris IV) on January 1, 2018.
