About Undergraduate:
At Carnegie Mellon University, undergraduates are building mobile robots, making documentaries, investigating cultural trends, and developing new digital communication technologies. These student researchers find themselves at the core of the university’s intellectual world, where they discover the exciting (and often chaotic) process of creating new knowledge.
We use a broad definition of research to include appropriate activities in the arts and humanities, as well as science and technology: "Research, academic, or artistic activities that lead to the generation of new knowledge; improving problem-solving skills, including design and analysis; original criticism or history Theory and interpretation; or production of art or artistic performance."
The Undergraduate Research Office supports students' research in various research fields. We provide SURG and SURG/CW grants to cover research costs, summer scholarships for full-time summer research, and speech awards to support students' presentations at academic conferences. Every May, we organize undergraduate research celebrations, namely thought conferences, throughout the school.
