Duke University (or Duke) was founded in 1838 and is located in Durham, North Carolina, USA. It is a top research university in the world, the best university in the southern United States, and one of the best universities in the United States. Named after the late father of the university’s great benefactor, James Buchanan Duke, Washington Duke. Duke University is a member of the Global Alliance of Universities and Colleges and the Association of American Universities.

Its campus occupies more than 8,600 acres and is distributed across three campuses in Durham and a marine laboratory in Beaufort. The main campus, mainly designed by architect Julian Abele, combines Gothic architecture with the imminent Duke Chapel. This is the core of the campus, which can accommodate nearly 1,600 people and contains a 5,200 pipe organ.

Duke University is recognized as one of the top universities in the world today. It ranks among the top in the United States for many disciplines including biological sciences, statistics, humanities, public policy, psychology, computer science, political science, and engineering. The college, law school, and medical school rank among the top ten in the United States. According to the ranking of the best full-time MBA programs published by Bloomberg Businessweek in 2014, the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University surpassed Harvard Business School and the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. Ranked first among American business schools.

From the early Brown campus, Duke University has developed into a global academic and research center. Its Levin Scientific Research Center is the largest single-site interdisciplinary research institution among American universities. In 2014, Duke University expanded its reach eastward and opened a Chinese outpost—Duke Kunshan University, which combines American liberal arts education with Chinese traditions.

Its most recent academic achievements include three of its students being named Rhodes Scholars in 2002 and 2006. Also in 2006, researchers at Duke University demonstrated the invisible cloak for the first time, delighting Harry Potter fans around the world.

Duke University has approximately 15,000 students, most of whom are graduate students. The ratio of students to teachers is 8:1, which can personalize the learning experience.

Undergraduate students can enter four academic schools, including Trinity College of Arts and Sciences and Sanford School of Public Policy. Graduate students can enter nine graduate schools and professional colleges, including Duke Law School, Fuqua School of Business, and Medical School.

The university has a racially diverse and politically engaged student group: activism in the 1960s prompted Martin Luther King to talk about the civil rights movement on campus, and after the violence in Charlottesville in 2017, Confederate General Robert · Lee's statue was removed from the entrance of Duke University Chapel.

Most Duke students live on campus, where they can take advantage of the university’s enviable sports facilities and fully participate in student life. Duke University has more than 400 student organizations-culture, faith, politics, and service-to promote student interaction and communication, and help students develop interest and enthusiasm.

Duke University is the seventh richest private university in the United States. In 2014, Thomson Reuters included 32 Duke University professors on the list of highly cited researchers. Ten Nobel Prize winners and three Turing Prize winners are also affiliated with the university, which is the second largest private employer in North Carolina.

Duke University has long been ranked among the top ten in the United States and the top 25 in the world in many rankings.
