New York University (NYU) was founded in 1831 by the then US Secretary of the Treasury by Albert Gallatin. It is located in New York City, USA. Its architectural core surrounds the charming Washington Square Park in Greenwich Village. It is a well-known comprehensive research university in the United States and one of the largest universities in the United States.


In 1832, the original non-denominational all-male institution began to offer the first class near the city hall, with a focus on secular education. The university moved in 1833 and retained its main campus in Greenwich Village around Washington Square Park. Since then, the university has added an engineering school at the MetroTech Center in Brooklyn and graduate schools throughout Manhattan. New York University has become the largest private university in the United States with a total of 51,848 students enrolled in 2019, including 26,733 undergraduates and 25,115 postgraduates. Among any private institution in the United States, New York University also receives the most applications, and admissions are considered highly selective.


New York University is divided into 10 undergraduate schools, including the College of Arts and Sciences, Gallatin College, Steinhardt College, Stern School of Business, Tanden School of Engineering, and Tisch College of Art. New York University’s 15 graduate schools include the Grossman School of Medicine, the School of Law, the Wagner Graduate School of Public Service, the School of Professional Studies, the School of Social Work, the Rory Meyers School of Nursing, and the Silver School of Social Work.
