Daily precautions for asthma patients

01 Maintain proper body position and open airway

After an asthma attack you should keep the patient resting in a sitting position to give some support to the back. You can also have the patient kneel on the bed holding a pillow and leaning forward at the waist, which facilitates breathing. If you feel phlegm, you should make an empty fist with your palm to tap on the back to promote phlegm excretion. If oxygen is available at home, oxygen should be administered immediately by nasal cannula or mask to correct the oxygen deficiency in time.

02 Provide a good environment

It is important to keep the patient warm psychologically, avoid cold stimulation, keep the air in the living environment fresh and quiet, not to be stimulated by cold wind, and avoid irritating smells such as smoke paint or no indoor.

Keep a short-acting inhaler around the patient to avoid another attack.

Give the patient some psychological support and comfort so that they do not have to be nervous and insist on deep breathing to relieve anxiety and tension.

Try not to keep pets in the house, and not to put up flowering plants. When cleaning the room, try to use a wet cloth or use a vacuum cleaner.

03 Choose appropriate clothes

Try not to let the patient wear clothes made of animal fur, which may cause asthma attacks again due to allergies, but choose cotton and loose clothes.

Patients must abstain from alcohol because alcohol vapors can cause irritation on the surface of the airways and cause constant contractions and spasms of the smooth muscles of the airways through nerve reflexes, thus triggering asthma.

04 Make good dietary regimen

Generally, animal proteins, such as fish, shrimp, crab, seafood, peanuts and cashew nuts, are allergic to asthma and should be eaten sparingly.

Do not eat spicy and irritating food during the attack to avoid aggravating asthma.

In addition, patients will have phlegm, drink more water to dilute the phlegm and help eliminate the body, try not to drink some cold drinks, because to cold stimulation will trigger asthma.

05 Appropriate exercise

When the patient's condition is stable, he should choose aerobic exercise such as brisk walking, cycling or jogging, etc., and have more than 30 minutes of swimming exercise every day, reaching 4~5 times a week. But you should not choose the environment with high pollen concentration.

Patients should try not to contact some allergens, reduce the number of asthma attacks, maintain a regular work and rest schedule, combine work and rest, maintain a positive and optimistic attitude, eat a light and nutritious diet, eat more green leafy vegetables and fruits, and eat more food rich in dietary fiber to keep the bowel movement smooth.
